Our story
Abacus Title is a privately owned, local title and escrow company. We are not connected to any broker, lender or agent, so our only interest is getting your closing right.
We were founded in 2013 to serve homeowners, real estate agents and mortgage professionals in West Michigan. Buying a home or a piece of land is one of the biggest investments you will make, and it comes with paperwork, ownership rights and steps most people never see. That is our job. We work with everyone involved to make sure every document is complete and every requirement is met.
Our name says how we work: careful, counted, checked. Precision moves property forward.

Owner · General Manager
Matt Pelfresne manages Abacus Title and serves as an escrow and closing agent. He entered the title industry in 2020 and has built his career on a simple principle: every closing deserves careful, precise handling, because so much rides on it for the people at the table. Matt is a business graduate of Western Michigan University.
Owner · Title Manager
Andrew has worked in the mortgage and title industry since 2012. He calls himself a jack of all trades: he is an Eagle Scout and a volleyball official who works club, middle school, high school and college matches. At work, he enjoys solving complex title problems, from sorting out a 1/157th interest in a lake house to tracking down a deed from the 1700s. Andrew brings attention to detail and deep title knowledge to every file.
Owner · In-House Counsel
David Trentadue has practiced law in Michigan since 1994, focusing on real estate, estate planning, and probate and trust administration. He is also a licensed title examiner, and brings that combination of legal and title experience to Abacus Title's more complex files, from estates and trusts to curative title work. David earned his B.A. in History and Political Science from the University of New Orleans and his J.D., cum laude, from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Senior Escrow and Closing Agent
Traci has been in the mortgage and title industry since 1993. She has built a large client following and handles every type of transaction with ease. Outside of work, Traci enjoys spoiling her grandchildren and is a huge Notre Dame and Detroit Lions fan. She and her husband love to travel and spend time on their lake with friends.
Licensed Title Examiner
Sarah is a born-and-raised Michigander who has been in the title industry since 1997. She began as a title searcher for a title abstract company, joined a Grand Rapids title insurance company in 2013, and earned her Michigan title examiner license in 2015. Sarah joined Abacus Title in 2024, bringing nearly three decades of experience to the title work behind every commitment and policy.
Administrative Assistant
Nicole Pelfresne is Abacus Title's administrative assistant. She keeps files, schedules and communication moving for clients, agents and the closing team.
