Two taxes, one closing

The state tax is $3.75 and the county tax is $0.55 for every $500 of value, about 0.86% combined. Both are collected at closing and paid when the deed is recorded.

Selling your home? You may get state tax back

If the home was your principal residence and its SEV did not rise above its SEV when you bought it, you may qualify for a refund of the state tax. File Treasury Form 2796 within four years and 15 days of the sale.

Some transfers are exempt

Certain transfers, such as some transfers between spouses or into a trust, may be exempt from one or both taxes. Ask your closer before closing.
